1997 Yamaha 80 hp 2 stroke outboard boat engine on skeeter frame?
I just recently purchased a used boat with the above engine and im wondering that every time the weather gets cold i cant seem to tilt the engine up or down. One morning here n Tx it got really cold and i went out to mess around with the boat and couldnt get the engine down. I went out later when it warmed up and it went down no problem. It has done this a couple of more times since i had it. Is there a temp sensor or what, Its beginning to annoy me. I hope u have the answer.

check for water in the hydraulics.
There is probably water, but should be oil.
I assume you have power trim? My guess would be the hydraulic oil getting too thick for the pump to pump it.Does it try to move the motor at all?If it’s manual tilt/trim, then I see no reason for the weather to affect it. This question really needs more particular info to be answered fully. Good luck with it
You may have air in the system.Tilt the motor fully up and then let it drop back down by manually turning the release screw on the right hand side of the bracket. Then tighten up the screw and electrically raise the motor again and repeat the procedeure again. This should release any air in the system. Add hydraulic fluid if needed.
Quite simply the grease gets hard and frozen. As it warms it gels again. I use to work in a boat yard. Thats why i know. It needs new grease.
thick oil & grease…good grief!! probably water in the fluid or in the motor itself. pull it off the engine and carefully remove the electric motor and find out. there is no temp. sensor for this system. it could also be moisture in the relays, but not likely. check all the electrical connections anyway.
